This dish combines the crisp texture of green peppers and the savoury flavour of firm tofu with the added kick of red chilli pepper, creating a balanced and flavourful stir-fry. It’s a quick and easy side dish that pairs perfectly with steamed rice when cooked in a wok.
Ingredients:
- 200g firm tofu, sliced into cubes
- 3 large green peppers, sliced
- 1 red chilli pepper, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the tofu: Press the firm tofu gently with paper towels to remove excess water. Slice it into cubes. Heat a wok over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Fry the tofu cubes until golden brown on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- Stir-fry the green peppers and red chili pepper: In the same wok, add the minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the sliced green peppers and red chili pepper and stir-fry for 2–3 minutes, or until they are slightly softened but still crisp.
- Combine tofu and peppers: Add the fried tofu cubes back into the wok with the green peppers and red chili pepper. Stir in the soy sauce, sugar, salt, and white pepper. Stir-fry for another 2–3 minutes, ensuring the tofu and peppers are well coated with the sauce.
-
Serve: Serve hot as a side dish with steamed rice.
Tips:
- Adjust the amount of red chili pepper according to your desired level of spiciness.
- This dish pairs well with plain steamed rice to balance the flavours.
